Our Mini Open Week started on Wednesday 15th August and 35 Ladies played in the James Likely sponsored competition. Caatherine Harvey who has reduced her handicap by 9 shots this year was the winner by 4 shots with 36pts. Ann O’Neill was runner up with 32pts and a visitor Therese Kennedy was in 3rd place with 31pts.

This fourball better ball competition attracted 40 players with 13 of them visitors. The winners on this occasion were all locals with Lady Captain Dorothy Woods and Ruby Trimble returning the winning score of 40pts. With 38pts Bernie Treacy & Doreen Browne were 2nd and Norma Mullooly and Bernie Finn were 3rd with the same score.

The last of the Ladies 4 Major competitions was played on Tuesday with 62 ladies competiting on the day. With tricky greens the scoring was not high but Ursula Miller returned the best score with 76 nett. Our Lady Captain Dorothy Woods was runner up with 77 nett and Mary Farragher was 3rd also with 77 nett.

Club Matchplay - The final of the club matchplay took place recently. After 18 holes Dianne Doherty and Geraldine Gorman were all square and had to return another day to complete the match. Geraldine was the eventual winner in a closely contested match.

The ladies hosted a surprise celebration in honour of Mrs Dee Crossans 88th birthday. A golf inspired iced cake and champagne were the order of the day and Mrs Crossan was delighted with the surprise and pleased to see so many of her golfing friends there to celebrate with her.

Club Mixed Foursomes - 10 couples took part and the next one is on the 24th August.

Captain’s Day Results
The Child of Prague definitely came through for Eugene as Sunday turned out to be an excellent day for golf. Many thought that playing from the orange markers and in a stableford competition would produce massive scores, but despite one or two 43 pts the course was still a challenge for most. The winner of the Ladies 9 hole competition was Adrienne Anderson with 21pts. Ursula Miller was the delighted winner of the Captain’s Prize to the Ladies. The Junior Winner was Aidan Faulkner and Ray Parfitt, Captain of Eniskillen G.C, won the Visitors Prize. The best Past-Captain was W.J. Johnston and the Team Captains prize was secured by Michael Treacy. Sean Diver, Club Secretary won the committee prize. Matthew Shovelin made the line-up on the 1st nine with 21pts while Frank Shovelin covered the back nine with 22pts A weeks practice with his new Titleist driver ensured Paddy Woods a share of the spoils in 5th and just ahead of him in 4th Tom Morrow, both with 41pts .E.J. O’Connor for once not winnig the Captain’s Prize had to settle for the gross with 39pts. Rising star Mark Gurren shot 43pts for 2nd and on a rare visit to the course Shane Timoney did the same for 3rd . In the absence of the winner , Gary O’Byrne with 42pts Club President Joe Gillespie accepted the prize while Shane spoke elequently and honestly, thanking Eugene for the prizes, the day and for his work for Donegal G.C. down the years. Congratulations to Eugene and to all the winners.
