Donegal New York to honour 80s Champions
The Donegal Football Club New York’s 59th anniversary banquet takes place on Sat. May 12th, at the Polish Center, Yonkers NY. The cocktail hour begins at 8pm, followed by a dinner at 9pm and dancing to the music of the Cunningham Brothers band.
In 2002, the Donegal Football Club created the Damien Meehan Memorial Award to honour the life of a young family man of compassion, humour and wisdom, a great friend and football player who we lost in the tradegy of September 11th. Through this annual award, the club are privileged to play a part in keeping the memory of his life alive.
Chairman Laurence McGrath has announced that the 2007 recipient of the Award is the panel of senior players that brought pride to Donegal NY during the years of 1985 through 1988. In this period of the highest standard in NY Senior Gaelic Football, this team won three Senior Finals with the fourth (1987) ending in a draw that was not replayed. This great team launched the club on a 20-year era of unparalleled sucess, reaching the NY Senior Finals in 16 out of the 20 years from 1984 to 2003. Among the many great Donegal football figures expected to attend the Banquet are figures exected to attend the banquet are Anthony, Connie, Frank, Liam, and Lanty Molloy, Eunan McIntyre, Kevin Meehan, Michael Breslin, Anthony Paul and Gerry Timoney, Phil Brennan, and Cathal Campbell.

Four Masters 75th Anniversary Celebrations 1932 - 2007 in Dom’s Pier

Four Masters held a very successful launch of their book, ‘Club na gCeithre Máistir 1932-2007’ on Saturday April 28th in Dom’s Pier 1. The book launch marked the third event of the club’s milestone 75th anniversary celebrations.
Invited guests who addressed the large attendance included Minister Mary Coughlan T.D, Dinny McGinley T.D., Lord Mayor of Donegal Town Ernan McGettigan - and Chairman of Donegal County Board Sean Kelly. The publication went on sale on the night and many attendees swapped stories from the distant past to present day. The occasion was made extra special due to the fact that the recently arrived National Football League Cup was in attendance as were the club county players Paul Durcan, Karl Lacey, Barry Monaghan, Barry Dunnion, Michael Doherty, Benny Byrne, team mentor Michael Kelly, and Dr. Austin O’Kennedy - with many photographs taken on the night.
County senior representative Barry Monaghan was also presented with an Appreciation Award to mark his selection in February last on the Northern Bank Ulster Minor All-Star team of the past 25 years.
All invited guests were presented with a copy of the publication, in addition to Vice President of Four Masters G.A.A. Club, Mrs. Anna Gorrell, deputising for Club President, Gerald Timoney, who was unable to attend on the night.
