A resounding Murvagh cheer went up on Saturday 11th March, from the huge crowd gathered to watch Captains Des Daly and Adrienne Anderson tee off in their joint drive-in. Prior to the drive-in, a service of remembrance was held for departed members of the club. This was led by Fr Griffith and Rev Fox after introductions by Vice-Captain E McLaughlin and Captain Des Daly. Lessons were read by Rev Fox and Captain Adrienne Anderson.
Fr Griffith paid tribute to all the deceased members and especially those who had worked so hard during the formative years of the club. He also reminded us that golf was just a game and to be philisophical about little setbacks like bunker landings. We hope this advice will have a positive effect when we land on the new bunkered 4th! Fr Griffiths benediction at the end of the service had a beneficial effect on the following winners of the competition.
A scotch mixed foursomes over 13 holes. 1st B. Boyle, M Gillen (50 1/3). 2nd J Talbot & P Hamilton (51). 3rd M Gallagher & A Short (51 1/3).
After the competition, a hearty buffet meal was enjoyed by all. The proceeds from the fees and draw (overseen by Dee Crossan) came to €663 and go to the Patients Comfort Fund, Donegal District Hospital. We wish our captains good luck and good golf for the coming year.

Rugby Club notes
Since the last issue, we played two matches. The Seconds, under Matt Wilson, had a good win over Ballyshannon Seconds by seven points to three. The Donegal try came from a good break from Sean McGill whose pass put Emmet Brogan over. Brendan Griffith kicked the conversion. We had excellent displays in this match from Sean McGill, Jamie Wray, Timmy Corrigan and Gabriel Schorderet.
Last Saturday Donegal Firsts proved too strong for a gallant Newry side, winning by 29-12. In the process they scored five tries through Adam Keys, Laurie McCaughan, Shane Gillespie, Rory Meehan and Eddie Gallagher. David Murray kicked two conversions. Rory Meehan scored a very good try after a combined forward/backline movement with the initial thrust coming from a break by Chris Mulhern. Eddie Gallagher also scored an excellent try. Fast Eddie picked the ball up on halfway, broke through a big gap in the Newry defence and set off for the line. Despite being passed by Joe Taaffe and the rest of the forwards, he sneaked over in the corner.
Off the field there, was disappointment for club captain Laurie McCaughan when he lost all four wheels off his chariot on Saturday afternoon. It is believed that the chariot is now beyond repair as it also crashed in Paris and Edinburgh.
Sympathy is also passed to Chris Lowther and Charles McGinty, Coventry, on their sad loss last Saturday. I understand that an English wake will be held with large helpings of humble pie freely available. Sour grapes a la Andy Robinson style will also be served.
Next Saturday Donegal play Strabane at the Holmes. Please also note the Annual Presentation night will be held in The Clubhouse on Friday 7 April at 9pm. Music by Back2Back. Tickets are available from Gary Prenderville or any committee member.

Ericas biggest supporter, sister Amy, is also in the picture. The two girls are daughters of Pauric and Mai and grandchildren of Packie and Anna Hanna, Tyrconnell St.
Donegal Town FC:
The Clubs U14s had a superb 7-1 win over Carrick recently which puts them top the South Donegal Schoolboys league. Scorers on the day were Oisin McGinty and John Curley who both bagged hat-tricks with Sean OKennedy completing the scoring. This weekend sees the lads travel to Copany Rovers on Saturday morning with an 11am. kick-off, all support welcome! The seniors played out a tough 1-1 draw with St. Catherines on Sunday last at the Hospital Field. Donegal conceded an equaliser with less than 5 minutes remaining in this game, so we had a right to feel a little disappointed with the draw.
Fintan Doherty added to his impressive league tally this season when scoring from a one on one with the goalkeeper. This result now stretches our unbeaten league run to 10 matches and, had we started the season a little stronger, we might be in the running for the league title at this time. There is no game this weekend. The Clubs ladies team are about to start training for the season and manager Caroline Walsh would like to have anyone interested in playing this season attend training on Saturday 25th March at the Hospital Field at 4pm. Bring football boots and runners.
