Under 16 - After a long league campaign, Drumbar U16 team reached the PJ Fox Cup Final against Killybegs.
Good victories against Copany FC and Carrick FC and a gallant effort in the final - just beaten 3-2 by a Killybegs team who have reached the last 12 of Barry Cup national competition.
Drumbar went ahead with a Barry Kemp header from a JP Langen cross after 7 minutes. Killybegs came back and equalised. 10 minutes later Drumbar went ahead again. James McDaid saved a penalty before half time and Drumbar were 2-1 up.
Killybegs started the second half by equalizing. Barry Kemp, captain, urged his team on but Killybegs got the winner with 10 minutes to go. Drumbar forced three corners at the end but it was not to be. Ian Curristan, League Treasurer, presented trophies to referee, linesman and winners. Team managers Gabriel ODonnell and Hugh Sweeney were happy with a good team effort and good turnout at training up to the final, in all kinds of weather.
A good meal was enjoyed in Pier 1 restaurant by the managers and panel and the 2002 under 16 league winners. Club thanks all concerned for their efforts
Youth team: also played on Saturday and beat Milford FC 4-2. Terry Doherty and John McLoone scored two each and Conor Rooney & Niall McGinty did well. The Colin Breslin Cup for youths is coming up soon and if all panel is available, Drumbar could give it a go.
Under 14: starting soon. Any player interested contact Hugh Sweeney and Brendan McMonagle, managers, or just come along.
