Donegal v Meath

Local players contribute towards fine win

A terrific display by Donegal in defeating Meath by two points last Sunday in Croke Park. In a fairly physical game, our boys showed their mettle, refusing to be cowed by the Royal’s intimidatory tactics.

Local players Shane Carr and Barry Monaghan contributed handsomely to this fine win. Shane at right-corner-back put behind him a disappointing Ulster Final to give a commanding performance on his direct opponent, holding the in-form Meath man Richie Kealey to just two points. The Townawilly man indeed repaid the faith shown in him by team manager Mickey Moran and can now look forward to another day at Croke Park in a couple of weeks time. Barry, playing at centre-half-back, gave another polished display of tight marking and tough tackling. His man Adrian Kenny, having scored only one point, was replaced midway through the second-half as Barry made vital interceptions on various occasions to repel the Royal attack. The Four Masters men certainly can be proud of their performances and it is a great honour for the club and the local area to have two players competing at the highest level and playing at what must be one of the finest venues in Europe.

And what a game by Sligo in the preceeding match against Tyrone. A real eye-opener - the Westerners were totally in control producing beautiful free flowing football. A great day for the North West.
